Our mission
Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue Inc. (CDHR) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping draft horses in need by rescuing, rehabilitating, retraining, rehoming and ensuring their lifetime protection while providing support and education on compassionate care and responsible horse ownership.
The Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue is celebrating it's 15th anniversary as an all-volunteer organization having rescued over 165 horses during that time. Founded by our Executive Director, Dr. Stacey Golub, Equine Veterinarian, we have grown to over 100 active volunteers and now reside on our own 20 acre farm in East Hampton, CT. The farm, built from the ground up, currently houses 20 horses, a hay storage barn, a training ring and a stall barn with maternity paddock. We rescue horses in need, whether they are victims of abuse and neglect, bound for slaughter or surrendered by owners. Horses are given time to recover and rehabilitate. They are then evaluated and re-homed based upon for what they are best suited. This may mean being a pasture pet or companion horse, a ridden or trail horse or a driving team. Adopters go through a process which includes a background check, site visit and maybe most importantly, a meet and greet to ensure there is a match between the horse and the adopter. Our goal is to ensure these gentle giants no longer suffer as they have in the past and live out the remainder of their lives being loved and cared for.
