
Mercy Housing and Shelter Corporation supports thousands of individuals each year who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of losing their housing in Greater Hartford and Middlesex counties. Through housing assistance and comprehensive support services, Mercy empowers individuals to achieve stability and independence, helping them live and work with dignity and respect. In addition to direct services, Mercy is committed to ending homelessness by advocating for systemic changes that address its root causes.
RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS
St. Elizabeth House
- Women’s Program: Short-term housing and support services for women in recovery
- Community Respite Program: Short-term housing for adults experiencing mental health crisis.
- Mercy House: Housing and services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS
The Haven
Provides 24-hour, on-site staff to support young adults 18-26, who are transitioning out of DCF services and have complex care needs.
The Residence at St. Mary’s
Provides supported housing for 12 adults with mental and physical disabilities
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
Mercy provides case management and rental assistance support to those who were formerly homeless in 120 households throughout Hartford, Middlesex and Tolland counties, and also serves individuals in Meriden and Wallingford.
DAY SHELTER
The Friendship Center offers hot meals, showers, restrooms, food pantry, health clinic, connection to community services and more.
SHELTER DIVERSION
Aims to divert individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis from entering the homeless response system by helping them to connect to alternative housing options and mainstream resources.
RAPID REHOUSING
Uses targeted financial assistance and short-term services to quickly return individuals and families who have slipped into homelessness back into housing and stability.
HOMELESS OUTREACH
Mercy’s trained teams engage individuals sleeping outside and in other places not fit for human habitation with the goal of getting them into shelter or permanent housing as quickly as possible.
