CONNECT
The West Hartford Art League (WHAL) has been a cornerstone of the region’s cultural life since its founding in 1934. Established by a small group of artists and art supporters, the League was created to provide a space for creative expression, community connection, and access to the arts. Early exhibitions and classes were modest but deeply rooted in the belief that art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of background or experience.

Over the decades, the League steadily grew in both scope and reputation. It found a permanent home on Buena Vista Road, where its campus of historic buildings and scenic grounds have become a hub for artistic activity. WHAL expanded its programming to include year-round classes for all ages, juried exhibitions, workshops, and community events. By fostering both emerging and established artists, the League has played an important role in shaping the artistic identity of West Hartford and the broader Connecticut arts community.

Today, the West Hartford Art League continues to thrive as a vibrant nonprofit dedicated to education, exhibition, and community engagement. It hosts major annual events such as a regional juried exhibit and an outdoor Fine Arts Festival, while maintaining a strong commitment to inclusivity and artistic exploration. With nearly a century of history behind it, the League remains a vital space where creativity is nurtured and shared, connecting generations of artists and art lovers.
