Operation Fuel was founded in 1977 in the wake of a global oil crisis that left many Connecticut households struggling to heat their homes due to skyrocketing fuel costs. In response, Governor Ella Grasso and Father Thomas Lynch led a powerful coalition of faith and industry leaders to establish Operation Fuel as a safety net for working families facing energy insecurity.

Operation Fuel is now doing business as Generation Power CT (GPCT). We will continue to help our neighbors in crisis and are positioned to do much more. Join us as we work together to create a CT where current and future generations have secure access to safe, reliable sources of energy and water.

During our most recent application cycle, more than 3,800 households reached out for emergency energy assistance in just nine days, which is nearly as many applications as our other three cycles combined.

At Generation Power CT, we believe in the strength of community to meet moments like this. When we come together, we can ensure that no family is left in the dark. Together, we can close the gap, respond with compassion, and show what’s possible when a community refuses to turn away.

Generation Power received over 3800 applications during 4th Emergency Energy Assistance program cycle. The highest we received this fiscal year.

When households struggle to access heat, power, or water, the impacts extend far beyond the loss of basic utilities. Chronic health conditions worsen, daily stress intensifies, and the simple routines that allow families to thrive become increasingly fragile.

The challenge of energy insecurity is not just an individual burden—it is a shared community issue that calls for collective action.
When one family falls into crisis, the ripple effects move throughout the community: schools, workplaces, healthcare systems, and local economies all feel the strain.

Generation Power CT depicts what it is like for a Connecticut household that is struggling with their energy costs. Please donate to Generation Power CT through the Travelers Championship Birdies for Charity program to provide energy assistance for your neighbors in need.
